The Dalai Lama walks into a pizza shop and says, "Can you make me one with everything?"

When I read this joke on a friend’s Facebook wall it truly made me LOL. It also reminded me that this is the essence of our 5 Basic Unity principles:

There is only One Presence and One Power, God the Good.
The Divinity of Humankind—we each have Divine Presence within.
The Formative Power of Thought—Thoughts are things.
The Practice of the Presence through prayer, meditation, affirmations and denials.
The Law of Demonstration—we are co-creators with God and take responsibility for living the Truth

We all know how easy it is to get caught up in our everyday lives and forget to live by these principles.  This recently happened to me while reviewing our financial statements in preparation for the next quarterly Prosperity Report.  As I analyzed the numbers it was clear that our service offerings for the past several months have been much less than expected – more than 20% down from what we had budgeted.
Naturally, this concerned me.  I shared these concerns with the Board and the Finance Committee.  This sparked some great discussions with two recurring themes.  First, this is not a problem for the Board or Finance Committee to solve on their own.  Yes, we can provide leadership but most of all we recognized that we need to inform the community of our financial status so we can all do what is needed.  Second, and perhaps more important, I was reminded that the key to our financial prosperity comes from practicing the Basic Unity Principles.  Duh!  How could I forget that?  I realized I was acting out of fear and not embracing the fact that we truly are, “one with everything” and, therefore, we already have the resources we need.
Reflecting back over the past year, it’s evident that we not only have the resources we need, we have more than we need.  Unity in Frederick has grown in so many ways.  We have added new ministries, including the choir and healing service.  We repaired – no, make that improved – our basement after it was flooded last June.  And, as I write this we are getting ready to make the exterior renovations to prevent the basement from being flooded in the future.  Further, you only need to glance at our announcements and monthly calendar to see what truly amazing things we are accomplishing in pursuit of our mission every single day.  I am sure I am not the only one who feels a positive and genuine expansion of the energy within our community.  And, I know that energy will continue to grow.  Naturally, our growth will take even more financial resources.  And, while I know that these resources are already there, that does not mean we already have the cash on hand to meet our current and future needs.  It simply means that we will have what we need when that time comes.
Soon, we will be holding community dialogues to identify our future needs.  I hope you will join in those discussions.  When we do this, let us not focus on how much things will cost.  When the time comes, we will figure that out and we will develop a plan to acquire these resources.  In the meantime, let us all use the power of prayer, meditation, affirmations and denials to do what is ours to do.  As you are moved to do so, please contribute what you can with knowledge and faith that will be exponentially rewarded for doing so.  If you have never experienced this, I challenge you to give it a try.  I know you will be delightfully surprised at how well the prosperity principle of getting more back than you put forth works.
Now, let's continue to do some amazing things.  We truly are the ones we have been waiting for!
Namaste, my friends!
