Youth Service Teams

Youth of Unity: Sponsor

Can you:

  1. Teach lessons on Truth Principles and spiritual interpretation?
  2. Set example of the truth teachings in his/her own life?
  3. Be open and nurturing in helping the Y.O.U. to unfold their personal truths?
  4. Be available for business meetings held by the Y.O.U.?
  5. Be available for social functions including service projects and fundraisers?
  6. Keep contact with regional Y.O.U. representative?
  7. Arrange for Rally participation in Eastern Region?
  8. Arrange for participation at International Conference?
  9. Keep up to date on materials available for Y.O.U. and make recommendations to the group?
  10. Keep in contact with the Minister for continuity of program?
  11. Coordinate with the Youth Ministry Director on purchases?
  12. Submit a monthly report to the Minister.?

If so, you could be the Y.O.U. Sponsor!

Primary Responsibility:

To lead the educational and social activities of the young people between the ages of 14-18 and to provide a positive learning environment for our teenagers as they grow in awareness of their divine potential and their relationship with God.

Training/Skills:

No specific training is required. An appreciation for the creativity, enthusiasm, curiousity and a desire to support the youth as they discover and experience the benefit of walking in Unity Principle in their daily activity would be recommended! A background screening will be needed prior to working with the youth.

Why is this team important to our church?:

Our teenagers, 14-18 years old, are the future of our Unity consciousness. It is only in the development of our young people in Christ Consciousness that we will develop and grow in awareness.

Why volunteer to be on this team?:

You will grow in knowledge of Unity Principles and spiritual literature through a new perspective. And you gain in the satisfaction of being a part of the future of our church and of Y.O.U. lives.

Youth Education Teacher: Uni-Teens (10-13)

Can you:

  1. Prepare lessons from curriculum in advance of your scheduled Sunday?
  2. Arrive at 10:00 am to prepare for the beginning of class?
  3. Teach prepared lesson on your scheduled Sunday?
  4. Bring the Uni-teens to the sanctuary for the Peace Song?
  5. Develop teaching skills in storytelling, material development, spiritual literature and supporting the Heart Talk?

If so, you can be a Uni-teen Educator!

Primary Responsibility:

To teach Unity Truths to the Uni-teens in a positive environment as they grow in their understanding of themselves and their relationship with God.

Training/Skills:

No specific training is needed. A knowledge and practice of Unity Principle, the desire to educate and nurture youth incorporating Unity Principles, leading by example by walking in Principle in daily life would be skills of the optimal volunteer. Ability to work from a curriculum, to plan and organize schedules, to maintain an orderly educational environment and to manage the youth during classes will also be tools that would be beneficial. Volunteers Youth Ed teachers may find it useful to grow with the children in the Unity Youth Program. A background screening is required for all programs involving youth at Unity in Frederick.

Why is this team important to our church?:

You provide guidance in the nurturing of our young people as they grow in their awareness of their Christ potential and express this potential in their lives. You help build a future and foundation for Unity in Frederick.

Why volunteer to be on this team?:

As you instruct the children, you grow in knowledge of Unity principles too. You will reap the satisfaction in knowing that you have helped the children become more aware of the importance of spiritual life. And you gain the ability to work in community with other adults of like mind and with children who have open and curious minds.

Youth Education Teacher: Uni-tots (0 - 3 1/2)

Can you:

  1. Keep classroom clean and safe?
  2. Notify parents right away if there is a concern?
  3. Create and foster a loving and joyful environment in which the children can play?

Then you can be a Youth Educator for the Uni-tots!

Primary Responsibility:

To exemplify Unity Truths for the younger children, provide a safe, friendly and consistent environment on Sunday and revel in the beauty of each child’s spirit.

Training/Skills:

No training is required - but a Red Cross Childcare Class would be appreciated! Abilities to diaper, feed, calm and generally care for a very small child would be beneficial skills for providing service for the Uni-Tots. A current background screening is required for all volunteers/staff that interact with Unity in Frederick youth.

Why is this team important to our church?:

You provide a safe and friendly environment for our children, and nurture the beginnings of spiritual development. You help to build a future foundation for Unity in Frederick.

Why volunteer to be on this team?:

For the satisfaction in knowing that you have allowed parents to feel comfortable knowing that their children are well taken care of while the parent enjoys the celebration service. For the joy in nurturing spiritual development in our children. For the opportunity to work with other adults of like mind and children with open and curious minds.

Youth Education Teacher: Uni-Spirits (3 ½ - 9)

Can you:

  1. Prepare lessons ahead of scheduled Sunday?
  2. Arrive at 10:00 am to prepare for the beginning of class?
  3. Gather materials/props for lesson to be taught?
  4. Teach a short lesson based on a simple Unity Truth with the aid of curriculum materials, Minister/Youth Director input and your own creative ideas?
  5. Take children to sanctuary for sharing and Peace song?
  6. Keep classroom clean and safe?
  7. Notify parents right away if there is a concern?
  8. Develop teaching skills (story, art, songs, puppetry, etc.) and foster a loving manner?

Then you could be a Youth Educator for the Uni-Spirit!

Primary Responsibility:

To teach Unity Truths to the younger children in a safe, friendly and consistent environment on Sunday and revel in the beauty of each child’s spirit.

Training/Skills:

No specific training is required. Knowledge of and living the Unity Principles/Truths to be an example would be traits of a good candidate for our Uni-Spirits. Communication, organization, advance planning and the ability to manage children by keeping their interest/attention would be skills of the optimal candidate. A current background check is required to work with youth at Unity in Frederick.

Because you provide a safe and friendly environment for our young members, and you get to nurture the beginnings of spiritual development in those children You are building a future foundation for Unity in Frederick.

Why volunteer to be on this team?:

Because of the satisfaction you will have in knowing that you have allowed parents to feel more comfortable and secure so that they can participate fully in the celebration service. Because of the joy you experience in nurturing spiritual development in children. And it gives you an opportunity to work with other adults of like mind and children with open and curious minds.
